Volunteering
The Cumberland Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) is run by volunteers, from executive board members to team officials. As such CMHA, is always in need of hard working and dedicated volunteers, so please don't be shy!
Sign up to help out, be relevant and contribute to the success of your child's hockey season or our Association's achievements. The work can be both challenging and rewarding!

To apply for one of the above vacant executive positions send an email to nominations@cumberlandminorhockey.ca . In your email, include some information about yourself, the kind of experience and/or training you have that will lend to the role, tell us why you feel you would be a good fit for the 'job' and how you think you can benefit our team. Please don't forget to include your telephone number.
The following CMHA team level positions are required in order to have a successful hockey season:
Mandatory Positions:
Head Coach, Assistant Coach(es), Trainer(s), Team Manager, Treasurer, Timekeeper, Scorekeeper
Optional Positions:
Fundraising Coordinator, Tournament Coodinator, Events Planner, Webmaster, Team Photographer, Team Videographer, etc.
Not sure if you have what it takes? We provide training, mentorship and support throughout the season to our volunteers, at no cost to them, except for their time. Learn more below in the Training section.
You can apply for most volunteer positions when you register your child to play with CMHA, at the time of evaluations when speaking to a convenor, or when you meet your child's head coach. The only exception to this, is the position of Head Coach, which requires a pre-season selection process.

As part of your application you will require a valid police check (less than 3 years from date of issuance, cannot expire during the season). More info below.
The CMHA is asking that all potential candidates apply for police check well in advance of deadlines set so the executive council can ratify those coaching candidates as soon as possible. Successful candidates selected to coach a team will require specific training. Learn more below in the Training section.

Police Checks
Valid Police Checks (for the vulnerable sector) are required for the following positions:
- Executive Board Members
- Head Coach
- Assistant Coach(es)
- Trainer(s)
- Team Manager
- On-ice helpers
- Any other volunteers who will regularly/frequently come in direct contact with a player
The Ottawa Police will be applying a processing fee for volunteer police record checks in accordance with the below phased-in costs:
- As of September 1, 2019, a fee of $10 will apply for all volunteers.
- As of January 1, 2020, the volunteer police check fee will increase to $20.
Steps to obtain your "vulnerable sector" Police Check:
- Obtain a CMHA association letter from your division level convenor, Head Coach or Manager. This letter is needed to ensure you receive the "volunteer" rate (otherwise you'll pay a $65 processing fee)
- Fill out the online "POLICE RECORDS CHECK FOR SERVICE WITH THE VULNERABLE SECTOR" form at the Ottawa Police website.
- Once completed, you will receive your validated Police Check via email soon after completing the online application. Forward this copy to forms@cumberlandminorhockey.ca
IMPORTANT: MARK YOUR TEAM NAME IN SUBJECT LINE (ie. Police Check for Joe Smith - Dukes U15 A2)
Note 1: Should you require fingerprinting you must visit the branch as directed. A processing fee will apply. Do not be alarmed, many individuals are requested by the Police Services to go in for finger printing. Notify your Team Manager to advise of this delay.
Note 2: Police Checks obtained in the spring for coaching youth sports (like Soccer, Football, etc) are valid as long as they are for the vulnerable sector and comply with the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association policy on Police Checks.
Note 3: All Volunteers, as identified above as needing a police check must obtain one regardless of their occupation (ie. police officer, RCMP, etc..)

Training
MANDATORY COURSE REQUIREMENTS
HEO has created a web tool to help determine the qualification requirements for any team staff member (coaches, trainers, managers...).

ALL team staff members are required to complete:
RESPECT IN SPORT FOR HOCKEY CANADA ACTIVITY LEADERS PROGRAM
All 'High Risk' volunteers are required to complete the "Respect In Sport for Hockey Canada Activity Leaders" online program, before October 30th, which can be found at the Respect Group Inc website.
GENDER IDENTITY and EXPRESSION COURSE
This course is required for any team staff member (coaches, trainers, managers...).

COURSE SIGN UP AND PAYMENT OPTIONS
- HEO course registration and payment must be completed via the Hockey Canada registry website. Once you sign up and pay for a course, you will be sent a confirmation email.
- Payment must be completed in advance via credit card (Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard) only.
REIMBURSEMENT FOR CUMBERLAND DUKES VOLUNTEERS
All Cumberland Dukes volunteers will be reimbursed for taking these courses once they have been assigned to a team. The procedure is:
- Sign up and pay for a course.
- Once you have successfuly completed the course, send a copy of the receipt showing proof of purchase to vp_finance@cumberlandminorhockey.ca and to training@cumberlandminorhockey.ca. Subject line to include volunteer full name and team number.

- Refunds will be processed within 4-6 weeks. Please be patient during peak season.
- You are subject to the refund policy above.
- Reimbursements occur after rosters have been issued and volunteers verified.
