Coach Welcome Message
Cumberland Jr. Grads - Minor Atom A
2018/19 Season

Welcome to the Jr Grads 2018/19 hockey season.  My name is Daniel Théoret and will be the head coach of the Minor Atom A team for the upcoming season.

Background
I have been involved in coaching minor hockey for the last 4 years from the IP program to being an assistant coach at the Novice Jr Grads and AAA spring hockey levels. In addition to the mandatory coaching certifications from Hockey Canada, I have obtained coaching certification levels through my studies in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa. I grew up playing minor and junior hockey in the area and still really enjoy playing recreationally. I also have many years’ experience as a hockey referee at the competitive minor hockey level.

Philosophy
My philosophy is to provide all our players with the best possible environment to develop their hockey skills and learn the game while having fun every time they come to the rink whether it’s for a game or a practice. Notre équipe sera toujours à l’avant plan, et nos joueurs vont toujours démontrer le plus haut niveau de respect pour leurs co-équipiers, les entraineurs, les arbitres, et leurs adversaires. Hard work, perseverance, being a good teammate, competing, a positive attitude, and responsibility will all be important values expected of our players throughout the year. Ces valeurs vont contribuer à l’amélioration de nos joueurs de hockey mais vont également contribuer à leur croissance individuelle. Our goals will be realistic but challenging, where winning is important, but not the only measure of our team’s success.

Time Commitment and Fees
Players should expect to be on the ice approximately four times per week for practices, games and skill-development sessions.  Occasional off-ice team-building sessions and/or training sessions may be added.  Players and parents are also expected to participate in fund raising and team events.

Team fees will be approximately $1000- $1500 per player.  These fees will cover tournament registration fees, ice times, referees, skill development, off-ice sessions and social activities.  These fees can be significantly reduced through fundraising activities and sponsorships which will be discussed at our parents meeting.

Tryouts & Evaluations
Tryouts begin with 2 intrasquad games on Saturday, August 25th, from 12:30am-13:30pm at Ray Friel #3, and then Sunday August 26th from 11:00am-12:00pm at Ray Friel #2. Jerseys will be handed out at the registration desk prior to our intrasquad games. Exhibition games are then scheduled for the following week. A number of Grads coaches and independent evaluators will assist me in the selection process of this team.  These evaluators will be sitting away from all parents; please do not approach them under any circumstance to discuss your child’s performance.

Throughout the tryout process, the players will be evaluated on their hockey skills but I am also looking for players that demonstrate the values of hard work, perseverance, positive attitude and sportsmanship. Additional tryout information is available at http://cumberlandminorhockey.ca/.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at dtheoret14@hotmail.com.

Good luck to all the players.
